Enoch Adejare Adeboye, born on March 2, 1942 (82 years), is a Nigerian pastor and clergyman is the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Early Life

Enoch Adeboye was born into a modest family on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara village, in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of Osun State, situated in the southwestern region of Nigeria.


In 1956, Enoch Adeboye gained admission to Ilesha Grammar School, a prominent secondary school in Osun State, Nigeria. During his youth, he developed a strong interest in literature and showed a talent for science, especially mathematics. This inclination motivated him to pursue further studies in the field. Consequently, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Ife, Nigeria, in 1967.

In 1967, Enoch married his lovely wife, Foluke Adenike Adeboye (nee Adeyokunnu), a marriage blessed with four children and several grandchildren.

Pastoral Journey

Enoch Adeboye personally dedicated his life to Christ on July 29, 1973, under the guidance of Reverend Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, the founder and initial leader of The Redeemed Christian Church of God.

In 1977, Pastor Adeboye became a pastor in RCCG. He learned a lot about the Bible and, without realizing it, was being prepared for future responsibilities by his Reverend Akindayomi. He showed a tremendous love for serving the Lord by starting Bible study sessions, crusades, revivals, outreach programs, and the evangelistic events known as the Congress.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye learned a lot from his spiritual father, Rev. Josiah Oluremi Akindayomi. In 1981, following the founder’s demise, Pastor Adeboye assumed leadership of RCCG through what was perceived as divine guidance. His new role as General Overseer marked the end of his academic pursuits, and he dedicated himself to advancing RCCG’s ministry to a broader audience, ensuring that people from all walks of life could participate without sacrificing genuine worship. At the time when he took over, the church had just 39 parishes.

Pastor Adeboye had a vision to bring the church of God more closer to the people. To achieve this objective, he supervises a global network of more than 40,000 local churches spanning 186 countries worldwide. In the United States alone, RCCG has established over 600 branches, with the highest concentrations found in Maryland, Texas, Illinois, California, and Washington D.C.
